Deep Tissue Massage near Kingston

What deep tissue massage is β€” and why it works.

Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using slower, more sustained pressure than standard massage. It is particularly effective for chronic tension, old injuries and areas that have built up significant adhesions over time. Nick is trained in the Brandon Raynor method of deep tissue work, a systematic approach to releasing tension through the full depth of the muscle layers rather than just the surface.

For Kingston clients, the practice is at Beverley Road, New Malden (KT3 4AW), approximately 10-15 minutes by car, or a short train from Kingston station to New Malden. Nick provides deep tissue massage, sports massage and remedial massage across the KT1 and KT2 area.

Deep tissue massage is not simply harder or more painful than standard massage. It is about working at the correct depth for the specific tissue that needs addressing. Pressure is always calibrated to what your body needs and adjusted throughout the session.

  • Chronic tension that standard massage hasn't shifted
  • Old injuries with significant adhesion or scar tissue build-up
  • Deep-seated postural muscle tightness: pec minor, hip flexors, thoracic
  • Lower back pain driven by deeply embedded lumbar tension
  • Athletes requiring thorough muscle maintenance across multiple areas

Deep Tissue vs Sports Massage

Which one do you need?

Choose Deep Tissue if:

You have tension that feels entrenched, old injuries, areas that regular massage hasn't fully resolved, or you want thorough work across a large area. The 90-minute session is ideal.

Choose Sports Massage if:

You have a specific injury, muscle imbalance, or want a session combining assessment, targeted treatment and recovery advice. Most first-time clients start here.

In practice:

Most sessions draw on both approaches. If you are unsure, WhatsApp Nick with a description of your symptoms. He will advise which approach is most appropriate for your presentation.

Who It Helps

Who benefits most from deep tissue massage.

Deep tissue work is not for everyone at every stage, but for these groups it is consistently the most effective approach.

😣

Chronic Back & Neck Pain

Longstanding tension that has not responded to lighter treatment. Deep tissue work reaches the layers standard massage cannot, releasing the chronic holding patterns that cause daily pain and stiffness.

πŸƒ

Runners & Cyclists

Kingston's running routes along the Thames and Bushy Park produce the same overuse patterns β€” hamstring tightness, calf strain and plantar fasciitis. Deep tissue massage clears accumulated training load effectively.

Desk Workers

Kingston town centre and the commuter population arriving via Kingston station carry neck, shoulder and lower back tension that has built for months. Deep tissue work reaches this at a level standard massage does not.

Getting Here & Booking

Deep tissue massage from Kingston.

New Malden is approximately 2 miles from Kingston town centre β€” about 10-15 minutes by car via the A2043, or a 3-minute train journey from Kingston station to New Malden on South Western Railway (frequent service). The practice at Beverley Road is a short walk from New Malden station with free street parking nearby.
They overlap but are not identical. Sports massage is a broad approach combining assessment, soft tissue techniques and targeted treatment for muscle imbalances and injury. Deep tissue massage specifically targets the deeper muscle layers using slower, more sustained pressure β€” particularly effective for chronic tension. In practice, most sessions draw on both depending on what your body needs. Nick will advise on the most appropriate approach during the initial assessment.
Brandon Raynor is a specific style of deep tissue massage that emphasises systematic work through the connective tissue layers of the whole body β€” not just the superficial muscles. It involves specific elbow and forearm techniques to access depth, and a sequential approach that releases tension progressively through the tissue layers. Nick is Brandon Raynor certified β€” this training is in addition to the BTEC Level 5 qualification.
Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes. The 90-minute session is recommended for deep tissue work as it allows thorough coverage across multiple areas. Pricing: 60 minutes Β£80, 90 minutes Β£130. New clients can access a first session at Β£60 (usually Β£100) until 31 August 2026. Full pricing at the rates page.
