Before your session

The session starts with a short assessment (5 to 10 minutes) to understand your symptoms, history and goals. Treatment then follows, tailored to what your body actually needs. You will leave with specific stretches and advice to support your recovery between sessions. There are no hidden extras and no pressure to commit to further sessions.
Comfortable, loose clothing. You will be covered with towels throughout and can undress to your level of comfort. Sports shorts are perfectly fine during the session — there is no need to bring anything specific.
For most types of back pain, sports massage is safe and beneficial from the outset. Muscle tension, stiffness and chronic lower back pain all respond well to treatment. If you have acute nerve symptoms — sharp pain shooting into the leg, numbness or tingling — or have been recently diagnosed with a disc prolapse, Nick will assess whether treatment is appropriate at that point. If in doubt, WhatsApp him to describe your symptoms before booking — he will give you an honest answer.
It can feel intense in areas of significant tension but should never be unbearable. Pressure is always adjusted to your comfort level — tell Nick at any point if you want more or less pressure. Any soreness after a session is normal and usually fades within 24 to 48 hours. Most clients feel noticeably better within a day.
The practice is at Beverley Road, New Malden, KT3 4AW. Open Monday to Friday 10am to 7pm and Saturday 10am to 3pm. New Malden railway station is a short walk away. Free street parking is available on Beverley Road and surrounding streets.

Treatments & conditions

Absolutely. Most clients are not athletes — they are desk workers, drivers, parents and people with everyday aches. The name is misleading: sports massage is simply a targeted, assessment-led approach to soft tissue treatment that works for anyone, regardless of activity level.
Sports massage is a broad approach combining assessment, soft tissue techniques and targeted treatment for muscle imbalances, injury recovery and performance. Deep tissue massage specifically targets the deeper layers of muscle using slower, more sustained pressure — particularly effective for chronic tension and areas that have built up significant adhesions over time. In practice, most sessions draw on both approaches based on what your body needs that day. Rather than worrying about the label, describe what you are experiencing and the right approach follows from that.
Physiotherapy focuses on rehabilitation, movement re-education and exercise prescription — often following injury, surgery or a medical referral. Sports massage focuses on soft tissue: releasing tension, restoring movement and addressing the musculoskeletal causes of pain through hands-on treatment. Nick holds a BTEC Level 5 in Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy and spent four years at Ewell Chiropractic treating complex cases alongside chiropractors. For an overview of his clinical background, see the about page.
For an acute issue, 2 to 3 sessions close together tends to produce the fastest results. For ongoing maintenance, monthly or fortnightly works well for most people. After your first session you will get an honest recommendation based on your presentation — no pressure to commit upfront.
Many clients notice improvement immediately after the first session, or within 24 to 48 hours once any initial soreness settles. For longstanding or complex problems, meaningful results typically develop over 2 to 4 sessions as the underlying patterns begin to change. You will get an honest assessment after your first session of what to expect and how many sessions are likely to produce lasting results.
Yes. Many clients come with problems that have been present for months or years. A thorough assessment identifies the underlying cause, and treatment addresses that rather than managing symptoms. For complex or recurring presentations, remedial massage — with its structured clinical assessment approach — is often the right starting point.

Pricing & booking

Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes. The 90-minute session is recommended for new clients and anyone with multiple areas of tension — it allows more thorough work and produces deeper, longer-lasting results. Pricing: 60 minutes £80, 90 minutes £130. New clients can access a first session at £60 (usually £100) until 31 August 2026. Full details at the rates page.
WhatsApp or call Nick directly on +44 7517 335 358. Most people hear back within the hour. New clients can text "Intro" to claim the £60 first session rate. You can also book via Treatwell if that is more convenient.
Cash and bank transfer, paid at the end of the session. A detailed receipt can be provided on request if you wish to submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. Packages are paid in full before the first session in the block.
Packages are blocks of 3 or 5 sessions at a reduced per-session rate, up to £26 per session less than the standard rate. They are paid in full before the first session, valid for 8 weeks from purchase, non-refundable, and unused sessions after 8 weeks are forfeited. WhatsApp Nick before purchasing if you have any questions — he will give you an honest recommendation on which option makes sense for your situation.
Please give at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice, or missed appointments, will be charged at the full session rate. If you are unsure whether to cancel, WhatsApp Nick — he would rather rearrange than charge a cancellation fee.
Possibly. Nick is a Member of the Sports Massage Association (MSMA) — a recognised professional body for sports massage therapists in the UK. Some private health insurance policies cover treatments from MSMA-registered therapists. Whether you can claim depends on your specific insurer and policy. It is worth checking with your provider directly. A detailed receipt can be provided for any sessions you wish to submit for reimbursement.
